As part of the IndiaAI Innovation Challenge, the Center is accepting applications from researchers and businesses to develop and implement “impactful” artificial intelligence (AI) solutions in important yet crucial domains.
The new initiative, which will be carried out by IndiaAI, an internal business division under the Digital India Corporation of the Ministry of Electronics and IT (MeitY), will award a maximum of INR 1 Cr to the winning team along with a four-year “contract” to deploy their solution in government departments.
This task is a component of the IndiaAI Mission’s applications development program, which aims to promote the creation, implementation, and uptake of AI applications in vital industries. Its goal is to encourage the adoption and growth of significant AI solutions in order to facilitate significant socioeconomic change, according to a statement from MeitY.
Five crucial areas have been selected under the project for the development of creative AI solutions. The following are some examples of indicative use cases:
- Healthcare: Enhancing diagnostics and patient care, early disease detection using AI-enhanced X-rays, strengthening ophthalmology outcomes and vector-borne disease surveillance
- Improved Governance: Leveraging AI-driven language technologies for better public service accessibility and grievance redressal
- Agriculture: Empowering farmers with AI-assisted crop advisory services, financial inclusion and utilisation of geospatial analytics to improve food security
- Assistive Technology for Learning Disabilities: Early detection and support for specific learning disabilities, enhanced multimedia accessibility tools and gamified learning
- Climate Change and Disaster Management: AI-driven early warning systems and multi-hazard susceptibility mapping
The announcement coincides with the government’s aggressive drive for AI adoption at a fast pace, with the goal of expediting the delivery of digital public goods and government services. The IndiaAI Mission was authorized by the Cabinet earlier this year, and INR 10,372 Cr was set aside for the massive undertaking.
Furthermore, as of late, Jitin Prasada, the Minister of State (MoS) for Electronics and Information Technology, announced that the government had established an advisory group to create a framework for regulating AI.
